How ILEARN Math Checkpoints work
Indiana’s three required Checkpoints are short, adaptive progress measures tied to what students have had an opportunity to learn. They are not three copies of the spring Summative.
Four moments, different purposes
Checkpoint 1, 2, and 3 measure staged grade-level content during the year. Schools can use the results to adjust instruction. The spring Summative is the statewide proficiency determination.
Adaptive does not mean unpredictable
Each Checkpoint selects questions adaptively, but its eligible content follows the state’s published checkpoint framework. A fixed third-party practice form can cover the published scope, but it cannot reproduce the official adaptive algorithm.
Second opportunities
Indiana provides an optional second Checkpoint opportunity for remediation within the published window. Families should ask their school whether and when that option is used locally.
What is changing
IDOE’s current 2026–27 guidance says the mathematics assessment frameworks will be updated after adoption of new 2026 Indiana Academic Standards. This page will be re-reviewed when that official framework is posted.
