Texas math testing after spring 2027

STAAR remains the current Grades 3–8 mathematics test through spring 2027. Texas then begins a BOY, MOY, and EOY Student Success Tool model in the 2027–28 school year.

Current through spring 2027

Grades 3–8 take the existing STAAR mathematics assessment during the April 2027 window. Current STAAR grade blueprints, reference materials, and calculator policy still govern that administration.

Confirmed for 2027–28

Texas has published a calendar with a beginning-of-year window from August 23–September 30, 2027, a middle-of-year window from January 3–February 21, 2028, and an end-of-year window in May 2028. BOY and MOY are described as adaptive; EOY is described as static.

Still pending or internally inconsistent

The linked mathematics blueprints visibly say DRAFT even though TEA’s August 2026 update calls the blueprints finalized. The published materials also do not establish SST calculator, reference-material, or embedded-tool rules.

What families should do

Use current STAAR materials for spring 2027. For 2027–28, rely on updated TEA and district guidance rather than assuming STAAR calculator rules or practice-test structure will carry forward.
