Texas STAAR Math Guide and 2027 Transition
Spring 2027 is the final scheduled Grades 3–8 STAAR mathematics administration before Texas begins the new Student Success Tool system in 2027–28. This guide separates current STAAR rules from future SST information.
Who takes STAAR Math?
Texas students in Grades 3 through 8 take the current STAAR mathematics assessment in spring 2027. Algebra I is a separate end-of-course assessment and is not covered in these grade guides.
2026-2027 schedule
The current official 2026–27 calendar places Grades 3–8 STAAR mathematics in the April 2027 online testing window, ending April 30. Districts choose local administration dates within the state window.
Structure and current practice status
Current STAAR mathematics uses fixed grade-level blueprints with one- and two-point automatically scored questions. Beginning in 2027–28, Texas plans BOY and MOY adaptive SST administrations and a fixed EOY summative, but some linked mathematics specifications remain unresolved.
Texas practice is not available in TestByState. The present STAAR package still has interaction and content gaps, while future SST calculator and tool rules are unpublished and TEA’s ‘finalized’ label conflicts with mathematics PDFs that still say DRAFT.

Can students use a calculator on 2027 STAAR Math?
Grades 3–7 do not use calculators unless an accommodation applies. Grade 8 students have an approved graphing calculator throughout the test.
Are future SST calculator rules final?
No published SST mathematics source reviewed for this guide establishes the calculator and tool policy. This guide does not infer one from STAAR.
